Seedream-4 Outfit Generator — Dual-Mode AI for Fashion Try-On
ByteDance's dual-mode model, fashion-tuned.
What it is
ByteDance's flagship image model from early 2026. One trick most others don't pull off: the same model does both cold-start text-to-image AND reference-image editing. We use both — covers get generated from scratch in T2I mode, then when you upload your photo we flip the same model into edit mode and lift the outfit onto you. Quality sits in the Flux-Pro-Ultra band at roughly half the cost.
Why now
Seedream-4 lives in the sweet spot for production AI fashion: fabrics and skin pass the eye test, prices stay low enough that we can give five free credits without burning budget. A dozen of our 41 capsules use it as the primary edit model — Mob Wife, Old Money, Coastal Grandmother, Festival Season, Country Girl, Wedding Guest among them.
Capsules powered by Seedream-4
Old Money
Heritage prep, restrained.
Mob Wife
She has the keys, the coat, and the better lawyer.
Coastal Grandmother
Linen, wide brim, slower clock.
Festival Season
Crochet, dust, sun, no schedule.
Country Girl
Pickup truck, sunflower field, Friday night.
Wedding Guest
Formal but not boring. The right amount of effort, every time.
Seedream-4 Outfit Generator — FAQ
How is Seedream-4 different from Stable Diffusion / Flux?
Three deltas worth knowing: (1) native dual-mode (same model for T2I + edit, no swap); (2) better editorial / fashion fidelity at half the cost of Flux-Pro-Ultra; (3) tighter prompt adherence on garment details (specific fabrics, cuts, collar shapes). Trade-off: it's slightly slower than nano-banana-pro on edit-only flows.
Why dual-mode matters for outfit try-on
We need to do both: generate the original capsule reference imagery (cold start) AND edit YOUR photo to wear the same outfit (reference edit). Models that only do one of these force you to glue two pipelines together. Seedream-4 handling both means our prompt format stays consistent across cold-start and edit-mode.
What if I want to use a different model?
All our capsules support custom model overrides on the run-the-capsule endpoint. The catalog at apps/server/src/ai/catalog.ts lists 10 models with input adapters — we'll add a UI for it in a future release. For now, the default per-capsule routing is tuned by us.
Does Seedream-4 preserve identity?
On its own — partially. With our identity-preservation prompt wrapper around the stored capsule prompt — yes, reliably. The wrapper is the difference between 'similar face' and 'your face exactly'.
Can I see Seedream-4 versus another model side-by-side?
Not yet in the consumer surface, but our research run reports (docs/research/runs/) include bakeoffs across Seedream-4, Flux-1.1-Pro-Ultra, nano-banana-pro, Recraft-V3 for the same capsule prompts. They're not user-facing yet — coming with the Trend Radar surface.
